Features of the choice of air conditioners for cafes and restaurants

One of the components of a pleasant stay in a cafe and restaurant is a comfortable microclimate. The large area of the establishments and the differences in the requirements for household, administrative premises, the common room and the kitchen make the air conditioning system complex and expensive. The project for the installation of climatic equipment must comply with building codes and SES standards. It is better to entrust the selection and installation of equipment for a cafe and restaurant to professionals.

Types of air conditioning systems for restaurants

Duct air conditioner device

In large restaurants, there are three zones with different requirements for the ventilation and air conditioning system:

  • Hall with dance floor and bar.
  • Kitchen and hot shop.
  • Administrative and utility rooms, bathrooms.

Large-area catering enterprises are equipped with industrial air conditioners. Powerful technology provides the required level of refrigeration capacity and cleans the air from impurities and odors. Various types of multi-split systems are recommended for restaurants.

Duct installations

The main feature of the duct-type climate system is the distribution of flows through the air ducts. The air conditioner consists of an indoor and outdoor unit, between which refrigerant flows in a closed circuit. The indoor module is equipped with a powerful fan to overcome the aerodynamic drag in the air ducts. Concealed installation of equipment does not disturb the interior of the premises. Appliances and air ducts are hidden under the false ceiling.

Advantages of ducted air conditioners:

  • simultaneous service of several rooms;
  • hidden installation;
  • the possibility of combining with forced ventilation.

Minuses:

  • the system in all rooms operates in one mode (cooling / heating);
  • high installation and design costs are required;
  • the height of the ceilings decreases.

Cassette system

When installing an air conditioning system in a restaurant, a hidden form of installation is encouraged. Cassette devices are split-system, the internal block of which is located under the false ceiling. The square case is made in the size of 500 × 500 mm to replace one of the tiles in the grid. Air distribution takes place through the decorative panel, evenly on four sides.

Climatic equipment of cassette type is designed to service rooms up to 200 m2.

Advantages:

  • the original design of the decorative panel fits organically into the interior;
  • the unit copes with the cooling and heating of large rooms;
  • low noise level;
  • suitable for rooms with complex configurations.

Minuses:

  • high price of equipment;
  • installation is carried out only under a suspended ceiling structure.

Chiller-fan coil system

It is advisable to equip air conditioning in a restaurant with several floors and rooms with a chiller-fan coil system. From the refrigeration machine (chiller) through the pipeline system, using a hydraulic unit, cold water is supplied to fan coil units - heat exchangers with fans. A small investment is required to install the system.

Advantages of the system:

  • the distance from the chiller to the fan coil units is not limited;
  • use of water as a refrigerant reduces pipeline costs (no need to use copper);
  • affordable cost.

Minuses:

  • design complexity;
  • the need to install additional units: pumps, shut-off valves.

Types of air conditioning systems for cafes

Split system operation scheme

Small-sized establishments need a less powerful climate system. The premises are installed split systems of wall type... This is the standard version consisting of an outdoor and indoor unit. Wall-mounted models are produced by all HVAC equipment manufacturers. Reliable and productive products of the brands Daikin, Mitsubishi Heavy, General are suitable for the cafe.

Models with inverter compressor control are more expensive, but they are energy efficient and have a long service life.

Advantages of a wall-mounted split system:

  • a wide range of design solutions for the indoor unit;
  • compact size;
  • affordable cost;
  • availability of additional functions;
  • the possibility of quick installation.

Disadvantages:

  • each room is equipped with a separate block;
  • uneven air distribution.

Floor-ceiling model installed in the cafe hall, if it is not possible to place the air conditioner on the wall. The unit, mounted horizontally on the ceiling, directs cold air parallel to the floor. The decrease in room temperature occurs due to natural convection. The second mounting option is on the wall near the floor. The air flow is directed vertically.

Benefits:

  • air conditioner serves a room up to 100 m2;
  • neat and attractive indoor unit;
  • uniform distribution of cold air, which does not cause discomfort to visitors.

Minuses:

  • required ceiling height 3 m;
  • no fresh air supply provided.

Column conditioners installed in the premises of a cafe, where there is no place for other options. They are relevant in interiors with mirrored and glass walls. The appearance of the climatic complex resembles a column or a wardrobe. On the front panel there are air flow control louvers and a control display. Recommended for rooms with an area of 100-140 m2.

Column air conditioner

Equipment advantages:

  • minimalistic austere design;
  • the ability to control the air flow;
  • automated control;
  • the equipment is distinguished by an optimal ratio of energy expended and productivity;
  • does not violate the architectural style of buildings, can be installed in places of historical value.

Disadvantages:

  • high price;
  • accommodation features - the columnist should be at a distance from people so as not to overcool the visitors.

Features of choice

The size of the initial investment, operating costs and the class of the institution, which is determined by the level of comfort in the premises, depend on the correct choice of climatic technology. Air conditioning engineers are preparing the project. To select equipment with optimal technical characteristics, initial information about the architectural features of the facility is required:

  • total area;
  • materials of enclosing structures;
  • number of windows and doors;
  • ceiling height;
  • plan of premises with a breakdown into separate zones.

When choosing the power of climatic equipment, take into account:

  • The total number of visitors for which the institution is designed. Air rate 30 m3 / h.
  • Service staff. For employees of the institution, a fresh air supply of 60 m3 / h is provided.
  • The presence of a smoking area. When choosing the installation locations for the supply and exhaust grilles, the division of zones is taken into account.
  • Heat inflows from all heating and electrical appliances.
  • Arrangement of tables in the hall. The organization of air conditioning for a cafe, pub and restaurant depends on the seating plan. Chilled air should not be directed directly towards visitors. Concealed installation is recommended.

When choosing an air conditioner, its functional potential is taken into account. The equipment should work not only in the cold, but also for cleaning and heating the air in the room.
